| Camping Time! |
[25 Jul 2008|02:46pm] |
Ok guys, I'm finally inspired to organize a friends camping trip! I was thinking of doing it sometime in August, not quite sure the exact dates, but I was thinking maybe the 2nd or 3rd week of August?
Also, where do people want to go? Do you want to travel north or south, far or close by? I was thinking that if we want to stay closer by, we could go to the Sacramento area by the river. If we want to go a little further, we could go up north near Chico, Standish Hickey, or if we wanted to go south we could camp around San Louis Obispo or Carmel.
Ok, let me know what you guys think!

| Natalie Portman Siting! |
[11 Oct 2007|11:53pm] |
|
Ok, since I've forgotten to tell people everytime I talk to them, I'll just make the announcement as I remember it. Hmm, I believe it was last weekend or so that I saw Natalie Portman at the UCLA Anderson School of Management! She was on campus to speak about some village sustainability thing that business people should do. It was funny, because the auditorium wasn't even packed. It also looked like most of the students were grad students who were actually paying attention to what she and the other speakers were saying. I think you were originally supposed to buy a ticket, but John knew the woman at the door, and since it was nearing the end we were able to get in free. It was funny, because she spoke like a normal nervous person, stumbling on some words and not quite knowing everything. It made her so normal. I also think it's weird because I always place celebrities in this other realm, but when I actually get to see one, it's almost disappointing because it's really just like seeing another person, except many people know her. Anyways, that's my exciting close encounter with a big celebrity. Bigger than Michael Buble! Ha!

| Party Update! |
[30 Aug 2007|09:44pm] |
Hello there, my dearest friends! I've recently been informed that I should update the details for the birthday party I'm planning, especially since the date has changed. It will be held at John McLaren Park in south San Francisco, though since it's not quite close to BART and the bay bridge is closed, it will be about an hour and a half drive. However, John and I are coming home Sunday evening and we can take some people back with us to Palo Alto later that night, and we could take you to the park on Monday and then back home. Also, if Leslie is planning on going on Monday, perhaps she can bring some people?
The theme is a hawaaian bbq luau and it should taken place in the afternoon from 1-5pm, so you can all get back home in time for school or work the next day! Anyways, let me know what you guys think so I can start buying enough food for everyone. Hope to see you all there!

| Upcoming Birthday Party! |
[10 Aug 2007|04:08pm] |
|
Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that I will be planning John's birthday party in September, and I want all of you to come! I believe the date in mind is Sunday, September 2nd, and it will most likely be held somewhere in San Francisco (any good park or beach suggestions?). I'll be bugging most of you again about it, but I just wanted to throw it out there so you can mark your calendars and see how well I can throw a birthday party!

| Hello from Greece! |
[27 Jun 2007|04:50pm] |
Why hello there, my dear livejournal friends. I've been in Athens for a total of 4 days now, and I'm already set to leave. The temperatures here have been well above 100 degrees every day and there actually isn't that much to see besides the Acropolis, which we went to today. As usual, I'm having trouble making friends with many of the people in the program, and those who I have become closest to are all going to Paros, while I'll be away in Crete. I should've gone to Italy with UCLA because then it would only be a month and I would have my friend Jeff in the program with me, so I would at least know somebody!
On a lighter note, John flew in yesterday and we've been having fun walking around the city. This weekend we are going to Mykonos, which is apparently the most hedonistic, party loving island in Greece. Yay! We're also going to the beach this evening. Most of the beaches here cost money to get in, but they provide you with lounge chairs and umbrellas, and alot of them have waterslides and things in the water and a beach bar, so I guess it's worth it. I'm really looking forward to having a drink just lounging on the beach. And I've heard from others that the water is fantastic, so I can actually spend some time in it!
Ok, well I need to look up hotels so we have some place to stay in Mykonos that hopefully won't cost us a fortune. That's what you get with last minute planning, but it's still fun!
Love, Veronica

| Why oh Why |
[31 May 2007|01:10am] |
|
Do I drink so much now? I had a wee bit too much to drink tonight at the Anderson party at Brew Co and I'm at work feeling a bit tipsy and tired, and apparently it's noticeable that I'm tipsy because all my co-workers have pointed it out! Plus I'm going to the Anderson talent show tomorrow (which I was supposed to be in, but then we aren't doing it, whch is fine by me!) and that includes booze on the bus ride over and a free bar 2 hours before the show! And then Friday I'll be going out to a club where I'm sure I'll get hammered as well. I tell ya, these Anderson boys are basically a frat! All they do is party and I get sucked into it and not set a good Christian example as my sorority would like me to do!

| Crazy Papers |
[23 May 2007|05:47pm] |
Why oh why do I always dsitract myself and leave papers to the last minute? I just slept for 3 hours and now I have to get my ass over to the library to write my 8-10 page research paper for tomorrow, plus I have another 6-8 pager due on Friday that I certainly won't work on until tomorrow!
On a side note, I got the whole Memorial Day Weekend off so I'm most likely going on a road trip. Woo hoo!

| Yet Another Sorority |
[10 Apr 2007|08:09am] |
|
Ok guys, for those of you who haven't heard yet, I joined another sorority, Alpha Delta Chi. It's the christian sorority on campus, and it's a lot cheaper than AEPhi was. Yesterday was Presents, which is their initiation ceremony where you become an official pledge. There are only 13 girls in my group, and we're the biggest one yet! There seem to be more ridiculous activities in this group than in AEPhi, such as this point system where we earn points for coming next Monday with our journal decorated, having to kidnap the president and interview all of the actives. We also have to have our journal on us at all times because if an active sees us, she will write in our journal. Sort of stupid, but I guess it should be fun. Now let's see if that annonymous person will comment again on the sins of sorority life!

| Nick Kids Choice Awards! |
[01 Apr 2007|06:37pm] |
|
Another event that could only happen to a school in LA: the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards took place in Pauley Pavilion and the IM Field! Chris and I were walking down to Westwood and had to avoid all this set up which we couldn't figure out until we saw on Saturday huge lines full of kids and their parents and a make shift red carpet by the bus turnaround. It was pretty cool, actually. And, while we were in westwood, we barely missed the premiere of The Reaping! We could've seen Hilary Swank! Oh well. Let me tell you, one of these days I will see a celebrity. All of these events that have been happening, I think it's a sign that soon I will see someone. I need to in order to make my LA experience complete!

| Coming Back Home! |
[20 Mar 2007|04:18pm] |
|
Hey guys! Just wanted to let you all know that I'll be coming home for several days for spring break. I managed to work it out so that I'll be home this Saturday through Wednesday, so if you're free, we should get together! I miss my bay area family and I want to see you all again! Just two more finals to go and then I'm done!!

| The Derby |
[12 Mar 2007|02:01pm] |
Well, last night I went to my first official nightclub since being 21!!! The Derby, as some of you might know, was the club featured in the movie Swingers, and has recently been made a historical landmark. They have swing nights every Sunday with 2 hours of free lessons and then dancing to a live band. The cover was only 10 bucks, which was pretty cool, there was no specific dress code and no required drinks unless you sat at a table. Anyways, it was smaller than I thought, but it was still pretty cool. We only learned two moves during the lessons, but it really did take about an hour of practice to perfect each one. The first one was the "college shag" and I forget the name of the other one, but it involved "sugar pushes" and "camel kicks". I pretty much sweated all of my make-up off, but it was so dark in there I doubt anyone noticed. One of the guys I danced with said I was really good, as did the teacher, which was pretty awesome! We were dancing so hard I think I burned off at least half the calories of the drinks I consumed!
Anyways, by the time that was over we went into the main hall to listen to the band play, but I didn't get around to dancing. Get this, for the first time in my life I actually got drunk!! Like seriously, I didn't expect it, but after I had my lemon drop I started to feel dizzy. I hadn't eaten anything since 3, so maybe that explains it, but it was so weird! After I had a cosmo I was pretty much gone. I also had an apple martini, but my partner spilled it on me so I only drank half of it. But yeah, the room was spinning and when we got up to dance, I was stumbling and losing my balance on the way to the dance floor. I was able to do the basic time step, but whenever he would spin me out I would stumble again and almost fall! Hopefully nobody was watching, cause I'm sure I looked like a complete idiot. I was laughing at myself though, I couldn't believe I was actually drunk. I remember rambling on and laughing a lot as well, but it's too bad we only got to dance for 3 songs in like 3 hours. Next time I go I won't have so much to drink so that I can actually enjoy the band and dance, but it was still such a fun experience! Didn't get home until almost 2, couldn't fall asleep until 5 and I completely forgot to do my homework and study for my quiz today, but that's ok. You guys need to turn 21 and come down here and party!

| Casino Night 2007 |
[26 Feb 2007|11:19pm] |
Alright! So as many of you might have figured, as a result of my new facebook photo, Saturday was Casino Night on the Hill, and I was glad I went. Jessica didn't want to gamble, so I took her money and played all the big stakes games: roulette and blackjack! I totally embarassed myself because I wasn't totally sure how to play and I didn't know how to cash in my chips! But I was on a roll during roulette, I swear I won like 12 times in a row before I started losing my luck! They had a traveling magician who was soo cool and dancing outside, which was ok. Jessica liked it because it was all salsa, but I don't really know salsa or tango, so I didn't dance as much. But this one freak danced with both of us, and he was really touchy feely, hugging me at the end of each dance. Oh well. We didn't win any prizes either:(
Besides that, I have some fun activities coming up. Thursday is the free sneak of Wild Hogs, and it looks like John Travolta might have made a decent movie! Saturday is the President's Ball at the Powell Library, and I'm going to the Purim festival at the Hillel (Jewish center) at UCLA. Apparently it's some jovial festival celebrating the freedom of the Jews from Persia or something. I'm going for the comedy acts, apparently they're flying in this guy from New York he's so funny!
Anyways, hope everyone's having a good time and hope finals and midterms and such are treating you ok!

| All Alone |
[18 Feb 2007|01:04am] |
|
So here I am working the midnight to 6am shift on Saturday by myself, because it's my coworkers 21st birthday and he just decided not to come in even though he knows he's scheduled. Oh well, it's the first time I've had the place to myself and I'm having a blast!

| Another UCLA Update |
[05 Feb 2007|04:28pm] |
|
Hey everyone! Just thought I'd post on this beautiful, sunny day. I swear, southern california is so fucking ridiculous in how warm it gets. I mean, it's fucking February and today the high temp was 81 degrees! I still enjoyed it today. For the first time I actually sat in the grass and studied, which I have been longing to do since I first came here but I never got a chance to do it. But after Project Literacy was cancelled for today I decided to go over and get some studying done. So sweet! Also, tomorrow is my first official shift at Sproul Hall, and it's 6am-9am! I'm going to go to bed at like 11 tonight so I wake up early enough. Also, I have a book report due tomorrow and I still have to read the book today, so if I don't get a chance to do it tonight I'll just type it up in the morning. It's only 3 pages, nothing too bad. Ok, enough with distractions, back to reading!

| Trials and Tribulations at UCLA |
[28 Jan 2007|07:08pm] |
oi philoi! (hello friends!)
Jeannette's trend really caught on quickly, and now it's my turn to post. First, I will recall the events of one Thursday or Friday night dinner I had with Jessica. We sat down at an empty table and were eating when a group of like 3 or 4 people came by and sat at the other end. I recognized one of the girls from last quarters Romans discussion class, but I don't know if she remembered me or not. Anyways, we were eating and then 2 more people came and sat down so that Jessica and I were now inadvertently part of their group, which was a little awkward. We got up to get something more to eat and when we came back there was a chair placed at the end of the table that we were sitting it, and we just sort of looked around while everyone stared at us. The girl from my class said sorry (and nothing more) and so we took our trays and went and sat at another table. How rude was that?! That they had the nerve to kick us out of our seats so their friends could sit in our place while we were gone! I was rather annoyed by that, and I wanted to punch all of them. We had the table first, so if they wanted a place with more room, they should've got up and gone to another table. The nerve of some people!!
Next, I'm not really liking my roommate Shenica's boyfriend. I try to be nice to him, but he pretty much ignores me. Today was I think the third time that I came into the room with a cheery hello and he doesn't even say anything! The first time I thought it was because he was shy or something, because he was just starting to see Shenica. They were watching Cars and I didn't want to disturb them much so I quietly went to my desk and started to change. Then he turned around and looked at me and I said hi, and he just turned back around to the tv! The second time Shenica was in the bathroom or something and it was just him when I walked in and I said a very friendly hello and he just sort of looked at me and gave a little smirk of some sort and didn't say anything! Today when I walked in and said hi Nica replied and then he didn't say anything. What's up with all of these Asian guys having no social skills?! Andy (Chris's roommate) had exactly the same behavior! Are they too freaked out by my saying hi to a stranger that they can't respond? It drives me crazy! Plus, her boyfriend is very loud in the morning (which pissed both Sonya as well as myself off) and makes weird noises. Thankfully they're at his place most of the time because I don't even want him here anymore.
Finally, I had quite a struggle with the washing machines on campus. I think I was trying to figure everything out for half an hour and I didn't even get my laundry done! It's sitting here next to me while I wait until later tonight to try to do it again. First off, I discovered they changed the system without notifying anyone. I was putting my laundry in when I noticed that there weren't any coin slots for the machines, and I looked around and noticed none of them had any. I had been saving up a huge pile of quarters to use and I was so happy to have them, only to find out that we now pay with our BruinCard. I tried to swipe, but as expected, I didn't have any funds on it so I had to go to Covel Commons to add money to my card. Turns out the machine only accepts bills and not coins or cards, and the BruinCard office was closed. Luckily, the girl at the desk told me that you could add money online, which is what I did, and I was finally ready to do my laundry, just to meet another obstacle. For some reason my machine disappeared on the list of available machines (it had been listed before) and I couldn't figure out how to make it work. And all the other machines were taken up. So I had to drag all my stuff back up to my room and now I'm just waiting to go back down and probably see that my bruincard doesn't work!
I don't understand why all these things have been happening to me. I also missed the mandatory training session for Project Literacy yesterday, but I e-mailed the guy and he said it was ok, they could just train me individually. But really, it seems like everything I do turns into a huge ordeal. I was taking Metrolink down to San Diego at 2:30 I think, and I even got there early (usually I'm that person who gets there just as the train is taking off) only to find out that the train I was taking ended in Irvine, and the one that goes straight to San Diego was at 4:20 or something. I taped an episode of Days of our Lives and the last half of it was so messed up that I couldn't see anything that was happening (though I could still hear the dialogue, yay!). Anyways, that's enough of my complaining.
On a lighter note, I decided to audition for the Fashion Show on campus. They were looking for models today and I decided on a whim to go. I thought it would be funny to announce to everyone that I was going to be a model in the fashion show, though I doubt I'll get a callback. I went in with 3 other people, and the audition was really short. They just played some music and had us walk one by one from one end of the room to the next. I was the last one up, and as the others went up I realized that I look like shit compared to them. I didn't realize so many people were really good catwalkers! They all had attitude and good poses at the end and when I went up I couldn't help thinking what an idiot I was and I felt really stupid! I think my walk was fine, but I don't think I exuded confidence, because in my feelings of foolishness I kept on looking to the side, to the ground, to the front. So I'll be very surprised if I get a callback, but it was an amusing experience.
Anyways, You're the One that I want is on now, but I hope everyone is doing well. If any of you to make it down on March 13th, I'll be having my tap dance recital! Come out and see the next great American tap star take the stage!

| Winter Quarte '07!! |
[17 Jan 2007|12:00am] |
Ok, I've been meaning to make a post and now that the first week of school is over with, I can share my experiences! This quarter I'm taking Greek 2, Discovering the Greeks, Tap dance, and History of the American Musical Theater. Originally I had signed up for Roman women in literature, but I found the teacher horribly boring and the class horribly boring, so I switched the musical theater, which I wanted to take anyways, and I love it! The teacher is in his 60s, but he's so vibrant and funny! The other day in class he had us sing this old timey song and then he split the boys and girls up to sing separate songs. He had two people come up and waltz with each other, and today he picked out four girls to walk across the stage as Ziegfeld's Follies! I'm also sweating up a storm in tap dance, but it's so much fun! I've lost my enthusiasm for Greek, and I'm dreading this class now. I already skipped class once, and I plan on doing it more frequently, compared to the two classes I missed all last quarter. Oh well. I also decided to join Project Literacy and an east coast swing class.
Yesterday Chris and I went to this place called Canter's Deli, which is a really famous Jewish deli not too far from campus. On our drive over, we passed by the Beverly Hilton, where they had just finished up with the Golden Globes. There were tv trucks all around, and people were dressed up so fancy; the older women were wearing fur coats and shawls! I didn't see anybody, though I doubt the celebrities would be standing out front just waiting for their cars. It was pretty cool, though. And the deli was awesome! I ordered a hard salami sandwich which was just salami and rye bread! I got a cup of kreplach chicken soup, which tasted just like my mom makes soup, and we got homemade pickles! Also, I ordered an eclair for dessert, and the guy was like, "they're so small, I'm giving you two". Too bad I couldn't finish the second one! But man, Jeannette, they taste just like Fatapple's, so good!!
Those are the main highlights so far. I'm still waiting for my wallet to come in. I left it with Andrea up in Santa Barbara, and she sent it priority mail, so it should've been here by today, better be here by tomorrow. I have my social security card, credit card, bank account card with the checking account number, and maybe some cash in that wallet, so I'm screwed if it gets lost or somebody finds it! Ok, I need to wash my hair in the morning, so I'd better get to bed. It's so nice having a nice warm heater on that actually heats up the entire room in a matter of minutes!

| Done with Finals!! |
[12 Dec 2006|11:35pm] |
|
I'm finally done with my first quarter of finals! I was lucky enough to only have two that I actually had to go to, though they were both on the same day, today. I had my history of the Romans final from 11:30 to 2:30 and was better than I thought. I might even get an A on it! It was funny too, because as I was walking back from class, my friend asked me if I was going to the final and I said yeah that I had already gone. And he was like isn't it at 3:30? I told him it had been at 11:30 and he started freaking out, and I couldn't help but laugh to myself. Luckily, he was able to take a make up one right away and it all worked out well. My Greek final didn't go so well, though. It was from 6:30 to 9:45 for me, and man, I was totally screwed! I likely got a C on it, though maybe by some miracle I'll straggle through with a B. I swear, it was the hardest thing ever! Andrea's coming to pick me up tomorrow for our Christmas partying in Santa Barbara, then it's down to San Diego and then up to you guys! Woo hoo!!

| Birthday party |
[11 Nov 2006|05:16pm] |
|
Hey everyone! I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon! Life in LA has been good, Chris surprised me at school for our 3 year, which was really nice, complete with roses and dinner. We went to the Getty Villa on Friday, which was awesome (for me, at least)! I've also seen Saranjot twice now, and he says that actually they're going to be heading up Thursday now, so he'll probably be able to make it on Friday. Which, I think, is the day I want to have my birthday party. I was thinking of doing something either Friday or Saturday, I don't know if any day sounds better to anyone? I was just thinking Friday might be better since we have to leave on Saturday around 6:00 pm or something. But I was just planning on watching a Netflix movie and playing games or something. Sound good? Also, what time is the dinner? I don't think I remember reading what time it was set at. Ok, see you guys soon!
